Key Issues

Battling Misinformation

The United States has long been a global leader in medical science and innovation. American researchers and institutions have contributed significantly to advances in medicine, from groundbreaking discoveries recognized with Nobel Prizes to treatments and therapies developed through decades of federally supported research. Public health interventions such as vaccines have also had a profound impact worldwide, saving millions of lives.
Today, many physicians and scientists are voicing concerns about policies and rhetoric they believe may undermine public trust in science, reduce support for research, or weaken evidence-based public health efforts. In the current political and social media environment, the spread of misinformation has made clear, evidence-based communication more important than ever. Physicians and health professionals can play an important role in helping address misinformation by sharing reliable guidance and updates from trusted medical and scientific organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, National Institutes of Health, and the World Health Organization.

Doctors for Organized Healthcare Solutions is committed to supporting medical science and elevating physicians’ voices through community engagement and educational events. By advocating for evidence-based medicine, promoting scientific literacy, and encouraging informed public dialogue, physicians can help strengthen public health, support continued innovation, and reinforce the role of trusted scientific evidence in building healthier communities.

Women’s Rights to Vote, for Safety, for Reproductive Freedom, Bodily Autonomy, Citizenship & More

Across the country, women’s rights—including reproductive health care access, voting access, and broader legal protections—remain central topics in public policy discussions. Many physicians view these issues as closely connected to patient health, autonomy, and equitable access to care, and continue to engage in advocacy at both the state and national level. DOHCS partnered closely with Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights (OPRR) during efforts to support reproductive health protections in Ohio, including advocacy surrounding the state constitutional amendment on reproductive freedom. While that represented an important milestone, policy discussions related to reproductive health continue at both the state and federal level, including ongoing debates around access to medications such as mifepristone and the broader availability of reproductive health services. Physicians have an important role in these conversations by bringing evidence-based medical expertise to public policy discussions, educating communities on the health impacts of legislation, and advocating for patient access to comprehensive care. Many also view the health, safety, and autonomy of women as important indicators of a community’s overall well-being, making continued engagement on these issues an essential part of advancing healthier communities and supporting public health.

Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health

Recent policy efforts have renewed concerns about access to affordable health care for millions of Americans. Current challenges to the Affordable Care Act could lead to significant increases in insurance premiums, potentially affecting coverage for an estimated 24 million people. At the same time, recently enacted Medicaid reductions may place coverage at risk for an additional 16 million Americans. These developments have intensified public debate around health care affordability and access, making the issue a major focus in the 2025 election cycle. In this conversation, physicians play an important role: bringing clinical expertise to policy discussions, advocating for evidence-based solutions, and helping ensure that access to care remains available and affordable so that no one faces financial hardship or delays in treatment because of illness or injury.
